Nicole Dawson is thrilled to be the winner of Influential Woman of the Year at the prestigious 2018 Dorset Venus Awards.
Nicole is a Musician, Choral Director, Conductor, Choral Arranger (Nicole writes original, award-winning choral arrangements), Vocal Coach, Songwriting Coach, Piano Teacher and Children's Music Teacher. Nicole is an "Acting Through Song" specialist and is often booked to work with a choir or group of performers to help them really connect with a song or theatre piece.
Nicole has been involved in music her whole life and played piano, sung and performed from age 3! She was very involved in music throughout her teenage years and began writing music and won a string of competitions for her compositions, arrangements and piano performances. Nicole then went to Trinity College of Music specialising in composition, piano and voice. During this time she composed her first musical "Tess of the D'Urbervilles" to critical acclaim and worked with a variety of brilliant teachers including John Caird (original Les Miserables Director), Howard Goodall (composer of Blackadder, Vicar of Dibley theme), Ben Goddard (leading West End actor and director) and various West End Musical Directors.
Nicole then begun her career which has seen her perform in the West End; she has founded and led a variety of outstanding choirs and vocal groups; and taught well over 1000 people to play piano, sing or write music. Nicole has had the great pleasure of working with such influential people as Gareth Malone, Mark de Lisser, Ben Goddard, Russell Scott and Tenors Unlimited.
Nicole won The Ovations "Be Inspired" Award in October 2017 for the most inspiring person in Dorset in the Creative Arts, chosen by the Regent Centre Christchurch. This led on Nicole being head hunted to support Tenors Unlimited in May 2018 at the Regent which has been Sing People Sing's most notable performance to date, receiving rave reviews and standing ovations!
Nicole has also been a vocal and acting coach for the prestigious Swish of the Curtain Theatre School and loves firing up the new generation with her passion for musical theatre and performing.
Nicole was also a Dorset Venus Awards 2017 Musical Talent Finalist, 2016 semi-finalist in Musical talent and Business Mother of the Year. As a Musical Talent Finalist, Nicole performed at the BIC in November 2017 leading her choir Sing People Sing performing an original piece (The Sing People Sing Musical Theatre Mashup) written especially for the event.
In June 2018 Nicole wrote an original medley featuring excerpts from all 9 songs from "The Greatest Showman". She founded a Sing People Sing Greatest Showman Course which was opened up to new members to join and received over 250 applications to join the course with only 25 places available! It was one of the most successful moments of her entire career and Nicole looks forward to leading new short courses in 2019. She is beyond excited to see where this new project could lead and thrilled by the calibre of new members that have now been attracted to Sing People Sing.
Nicole got where she is today through sheer determination, talent and hard work with a few notable teachers and mentors spotting a glimmer of talent and encouraging and nurturing her as a child. She has a passion for creating new and exciting experiences for performers and audiences alike and her desire for music to be accessible to all drives her on.
Nicole lives in Bournemouth and combines all of the above with a successful private teaching practice and raising her two young children.
